    CALL FOR PAPER ABSTRACTS

    JPIC 2019

Jazz & Philosophy Intermodal Conference 2019

2nd Biannual Meeting (first was in 2017) at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA
    April 20-22, 2019
    http://jpic.fm

DRAFT PROPOSAL ONLY – NOT FINALIZED

1,000 word abstracts of any topic on the philosophy of jazz are invited, as well as proposals for panels, author-meets-critics sessions, and other special sessions. All submitted abstracts are considered by the JPIC 2019 Program Review Committee for presentation at the conference.

    • JPIC 2019 welcomes volunteers to serve as session chairs and commentators.
    • Possible submissions might address the following areas: jazz improvisation; ontology, epistemology or metaphysics of jazz; cognitive science of jazz; performance dynamics; audience reception; jazz and race or gender studies; or comparisons between jazz and other art forms, such as dance or the visual arts.
    • Proposals for panels, author-meets-critics sessions, and other special sessions should include 250-1,000 word justification addressing how your proposal fits in the philosophy of jazz as well stating your presentation’s execution requirements, e.g. dance floor, musical equipment, etc. Additionally, please include the names, affiliations, and email addresses of all proposed participants.
    • All submissions must be formatted as PDF or Word files (preferred). Submissions not meeting these requirements will not be considered, but we will contact you and encourage resubmission.
    • All participants must register for the conference at http://jpic.fm .

JPIC supports the goals of the Gendered Conference Campaign (GCC). In particular, in selecting presentations (papers or panels) the JPIC 2019 Program Review Committee considers whether steps have been taken to support the GCC, as evidenced by the recruitment and participation of women (51% of the planet’s population) and members of other historically under-represented and excluded groups.

Please submit papers, panel proposals, and any inquiries to the JPIC 2019 Program Review Committee chair, Dr. David C. Ring (Orange Coast College Philosophy department Emeritus) at dr.davidcring@gmail.com

Submission deadline: October 1, 2019, but please submit earlier if possible.

Papers themselves when presented at JPIC 2019 should not exceed 3,000 words and should be accompanied by a 100-word abstract.
