PoJ.fm's Arguing Philosophy
Always argue at PoJ.fm persuasively
Be sure to persuasively argue and provide extensive evidence and citation references using end notes for whatever main points you make while writing for PoJ.fm. Assume that you are trying to convince a sceptical reader to believe what you are saying. You cannot merely assert that such and so is true without providing reasons, justifications, explanations and/or evidence in support of your points.
If you are making an argument take into account that you need to justify the relevance of your premises used in your argument and why the conclusion follows should all of the premises be true. Use footnotes and internet connections in support of EVERY quotation and significant sources of information. Leave an intellectual scholarly trail that any researcher or reader could follow that convinces them that what you are saying is true and relevant.
A primary purpose of PoJ.fm is to address philosophical questions related to jazz that interlink. A reader should be able to pursue his or her own interests and interact in a constructive manner with the website so editors should go out of their way to provide these links.
How to format Wikimedia pages
How to format wiki pages at philosophyofjazz.net is presented below. There is also a MediaWiki Formatting Cheat Sheet. One can access MediaWiki formatting instructions by clicking on the Navigation Bar found on each wiki page of PoJ.fm in the upper left corner, then scroll down to Wiki heading, then click on Advanced Editing, click on Wikimedia help, then scroll down to Editing, then click on Formatting.
WARNING: CHANGING any wording, or even the formatting, of a TOPIC QUESTION heading inside of double square brackets will lose the link to the contents that are already linked/written on that topic question's page. Generally speaking, never change the wording or formatting of any topic question. If you must rewrite or reformat a topic heading's question, which is the title for all sub-pages within, then WHILE IN EDITING MODE select ALL of the current content including all wikimedia formatting commands, then paste it into the newly reformatted second version of the Topic question heading that has been reformatted.
So, the moral of the story: DO NOT CHANGE TOPIC QUESTION'S WORDING or FORMATTING.
- There is one exception to the above DO NOT change wording of topic question. If you click on that topic question and it opens to an undeveloped page, then there is no content to be lost and one can change the wording of that title without fear of losing content.

Color & Block Quotation Formatting Conventions at PoJ.fm
- Main text is formatted using blue span tags, as exhibited here in this very sentence displaying in blue font.
- The span tags when in editing mode look like this: <span style="color:blue">blue colored </span> with this result when in non-editing display mode: blue colored.
- “Quoted material is formatted with green span tags, as can be observed when in editing (non-display mode) as exhibited here.”
- Sometimes questions are posted in red, as exhibited here and often start with a question arrow like this: ➢ .
- The Chicago Manual of Style recommends using a block quotation when extracted text is 100 words or more, or approximately six to eight lines in a typical manuscript. The Purdue Online Writing lab recommends that a block quotation format should only be used for more than four lines of prose and that a block quotation format is a free-standing block of text (with) omit(ted) quotation marks.
- Because PoJ.fm strives for presentability on many different display sizes from large display screens of a desktop computer, or the much smaller display space on mobile phones, or iPads or tablets, there is no stable measure for how many lines of prose there might be on any given screen and how many lines are displayed on it. On a smaller and narrower display screen, such as on numerous mobile devices, what is one line long on a large computer display screen could be more than four lines long on a much smaller and narrower screen. Hence, the recommendation or requirement only to use block quotations when a passage of text is more than four lines long cannot be consistently obeyed or conformed to.
- As a consequence of this impossible compliance of the more than four lines rule for block quotations due to multi-display systems having variable line lengths, formatting policy at PoJ.fm for when to use block quotations is more lenient because of the clean look of block quotations on a webpage and the lack of any limit regarding use of horizontal space. Because of digitalization no paper need be wasted and webpages can have unlimited length only depending upon computer and memory resources. As a consequence, if a quotation is more than a sentence long it can still be acceptable to use the block quotation formatting device exhibited below.
“This is a block quotation. Be sure to use the ending block quotation span tag that turns off the block quotation when editing. You can see it here when in editing mode. It is also required to put a carriage return just before the ending block quotation span tag so that it is on its own line on the page at the very left margin. Technically, according to most formatting conventions in English, block quotations do not have to be enclosed in quotation marks. PoJ.fm typically adds the quotation marks anyway just to be maximally clear that the material inside quotation marks is being quoted as someone else's writing(s) or voice. For an extant example of this practice of still having quotation marks together with a block quotation formatting (although it may just be a mistake because Wikipedia block quotations do not use quotation marks), but click on this Wikipedia: Grapheme-color synesthesia page, third block quotation under the heading "Experiences and reports."

There are two main conventions for formatting in color in MediaWiki. One uses color name words and the other uses the six digit hexadecimal code. In the hexadecimal code of six numbers (including A-F) each pair of numbers represents the amount of Red, Green, and Blue (in this order reading left to right) to mix together on the computer display screen. The number "00" means to use none of that color, while the biggest number "FF" commands a computer to use the maximum amount of one of the three colors of red, green, or blue. To use color, say red , italicizes, bold, or bold italic enclose it in span tags for color and specific number of single quotation marks for the other three:

Headings of Different Levels
Skip Level 1, it is page name level.
An article with three or more headings (made using identity signs) automatically creates an outlined Table of Contents at the start of the page; otherwise, it doesn't automatically produce It.
- To upload Image file (must be .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png) click on Tools Menu at top of page on right, then click on Upload File. Click on Choose File button, click on Dropbox, or wherever the file is stored (8 MB maximum), before clicking on green Upload File button on bottom left of upload page to submit file, find file name that says "Image.jpeg" (or other file extension) and write good descriptive name for the file before you upload it.
- You can see the list and file names of the Uploaded files while on the Upload files page by clicking on "list of uploaded files" in light blue in the second sentence at the top of the page. Files with an underline character between words do not display the underline symbol.
- To place image on Wiki page use: file:file-name in double square brackets like this: [[file:RobotJazz.jpg]].
