    Discussion[edit]

    Introduction[edit]

Free jazz may not be jazz, or it should be considered as jazz. What considerations support these opposing positions? Can there be a justified decision as to whether free jazz qualifies as jazz, or not?

    Free jazz is NOT jazz[edit]

    Free jazz is jazz[edit]

While not definitive, the fact that many theorists continue to label free jazz with this moniker supports that these individuals are likely to believe that it counts as jazz.
